Good news for ETSU and for 42 men and women just entering the nursing workforce: the December 2003 B.S.N. class has earned a 100 percent passage rate on its national licensure exam.
This means that all 42 students who received their bachelor of science in nursing degree last December have sat for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RNr) and have passed on the first attempt.
NCLEX-RNr is required for all registered nurses.
“NCLEX is a true measurement of the quality of nursing programs as all graduates across the nation must undergo this rigorous exam in order to become a licensed registered nurse,” said Dr. Patricia Smith, ETSU interim dean of nursing.
“This excellent passage rate attests to the fact that ETSU’s curriculum prepares its students extremely well. We are very proud of this class of new graduates.”
In recent years, ETSU’s passage rate has been between 95-98 percent.
ETSU has the largest B.S.N. enrollment of any college or university in Tennessee, graduating a class in both fall and spring terms.
Smith noted that the nation’s current nursing shortage has attracted a record number of applicants recently for ETSU’s undergraduate nursing program.
