Raleigh, N.C. – Brad Yewer set a personal best in the 5000 meters of 14:28.15 for an 11th-place finish at the Adidas Raleigh Relays this weekend in the Paul Derr stadium on the North Carolina State campus. For the women in the distance races, Christine Ward also recorded a personal best in the 5000 meters. Her time of 18:32.44 gave her 13th place in the race.
The track team had several strong performances with many athletes’ continuing to break personal records. In the 800-meter invitational, Kim Simmons finished ninth running a personal best of 2:11.76. Joshua Hicks also improved this weekend tallying a personal best in the 1500 meters. Hicks finished third in the morning race with a time of 4:00.26.
In the short sprints, Chantelle Vernon recorded a time of 12.26 in the 100 meters which placed her 29th overall. In the field events, Kristin Truman completed an 11.99m jump in the triple jump for a 13th-place finish.
“We improved upon our performance from last week,” commented head coach David E. Walker. “It was a solid outing for the team. We had hoped for a regional qualifying mark in at least one event, but have some areas to improve upon.
