Women’s tennis head coach Steve Brooks anticipates a great season for Women’s Tennis starting out with a tournament next weekend at home.
The ETSU Women’s tennis team is counting down the days until their home opener in the ETSU Tournament.
Though their season won’t kick off until the spring semester, the team will be playing in their first game of the year later next week at the tournament.
During the day and a half of tournament play, there will be 22 teams competing, including 12 women’s teams.
Brooks, in organizing the tournament, is expecting to go through close to 600 tennis balls over the duration.
The tournament is scheduled for the a will be held on the outside courts on campus.
“Our schedule is looking very good with games against nationally ranked teams,” said Brooks. “This year we have four girls returning including three who beat Virginia Tech last year.”
When the season opens, the women’s tennis team has their eyes set on being ranked at the top of the Southern Conference after falling short last season.
Brooks said, “Our goal for this year is to be top in the (Southern) Conference.”
Four returning players will be back to help the Bucs out this season.
Three of girls defeated nationally ranked Virginia Tech last season in the regular season finale.
There will be three new players joining the team this year.
The Bucs will face top national competition this year as they play regular season game in the SoCon.
