Job Seekers may not have to leave campus to find a job thanks to the Office of Career Placement and Internship Services.
One of the services the office provides at no extra charge to students is an opportunity for on-campus recruiting and interviews.
Employers contact the office when looking for opportunities to hire new people. Career placement then arranges for the business to come to ETSU so they can see what the university has to offer.
Jeanette Hill, the information resource technician for career placement, encourages students to take advantage of this opportunity. “Come by the office and check the schedule to see if anything matches our needs. Be sure to check back because the schedule changes frequently,” she said.
She also says it is better if the student is registered with the office. That way their rsum is on hand when an interested employer calls looking for qualified applicants.
Calvin Purvis, assistant director of career placement, is an example that on-campus recruiting works. He received his first job through an interview arranged by the career placement. He urges everyone to take advantage of ETSU’s resources.
The next major recruiting opportunity is Oct. 21 when Eastman Chemical Company will be looking for a systems analyst. Students looking for a position in this area may sign up for an interview. Interviews are assigned on a first-come, first-served.
The Army/National Guard will also be on campus on Oct. 21. “We don’t have as many recruiters as we would like to have,” Hill said. “Employers don’t feel the need to come out to college campuses anymore.”
