Dear Editor,
Recently I was reading about how the television network ABC wouldn’t show the movie Saving Private Ryan, due to the nature of its content, particularly the violence.
I do not agree with this decision. War is a part of our history, whether it is good or bad.
Throughout American history we have wanted to be informed of what is going on in our country and in the world.
If Saving Private Ryan is so violent and has controversial content, then why do we televise to the world what is going on now in Iraq?
Are there not people all over the country stating their minds on how they feel about it?
It’s important for all people to become perceptive of the effects of war, whether they agree with it or not.
This movie is depicting one of the most tragic and historical battles of the past century.
In the 1960s the Vietnam war was televised and people saw what tragedies and violence war really was in their own living rooms.
We have a responsibility to show people the tragedies and horror of war or we will be doomed to repeat it.
You can’t let executives and producers say what we can and can’t view, or it would allow such things as war to become meaningless.
