Following an emotional win over a hot UNC-Greensboro team and a milestone win over Wofford on the road that saw Tiffani Mayes top the 1,000-point plateau, the ETSU Lady Bucs hit a plateau of their own this week.
ETSU coach Karen Kemp had hoped to ride the momentum of the Greensboro game into the week ahead.
Instead, the Lady Bucs (8-11, 6-6 SoCon) started slowly in games on the road against Furman and Chattanooga and were unable to rally back in the second half of either game. Furman 52, ETSU 49

Furman dominated the Lady Bucs for the first 20 minutes and held off a frantic ETSU run in the second 20 minutes to win by three points.
The Lady Paladins did everything right in the first half. In addition to holding Tiffani Mayes, the 10th leading scorer in the country, to four points in the period, Furman used a 16-0 run to double up ETSU 30-15 at halftime.
The Lady Paladins also managed to out-rebound the Lady Bucs 25-18 in the first half.
When ETSU came out of the locker room, the priority was getting the ball inside to Mayes.
The move quickly paid dividends, as Mayes quickly scored 10 points in the early moments of the second half.
The Lady Bucs rallied to pull within two points at 40-38 at the 10-minute mark, and stood toe-to-toe with the Furman the rest of the way.
In the end, a Holly Moring shot from three-point range to tie the game was off the mark with eight seconds left, and the Lady Paladins escaped with the win.
Mayes recovered from her dismal first half to score 22 points, but she was the only Lady Buc to score in double digits.

UT-Chattanooga 87, ETSU 64

Starting slowly in the first half is becoming a familiar but disappointing trend for the Lady Bucs.
It continued against Chattanooga on Saturday, as they found themselves down 43-16 at the on the road against the conference-leading Lady Mocs.
Sticking to the formula that unfolded in the Furman game, the Lady Bucs came out strong in the second half.
ETSU shot 58 percent against Chattanooga in the second 20 minutes, but they weren’t able to put the clamps on the Lady Mocs offense, so a comeback was not in the cards.
Freshman Kelly Turman broke loose on the offensive end to score a career-high 21 points to set the pace for the Lady Bucs.
Michelle DeVault, another freshman making an impact this season, had a hot hand from behind the arc.
DeVault was 5-8 from three-point range and finished with 15 points. Tiffani Mayes added 14 points in the effort.
The Lady Bucs will be in action today at home against the College of Charleston (7-11, 4-8).
Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
