Dear Editor,
After reading Larry French’s Jan. 20, op-ed on journalistic integrity, I couldn’t agree more that all journalists should be beholden to the tenets of honesty and fairness. With the exception of clearly denoted opinion pieces, the news media should never be a tool for swaying public opinion.
Which is why it was so disturbing to listen to Mr. French lambaste the likes of Dan Rather, The New York Times and USA Today, yet completely ignore the journalistic malfeasance of FOX News.
Two hours of FOX News will produce more spin and prevarication than all the examples provided by French combined.
So, where is the fusillade from the Cannon Corner when Sean Hannity claims for the umpteenth time, “We’ve found the weapons of mass destruction!”?
It would be different if the “misstatements” of FOX News were random and accidental, but they aren’t.They’re calculated lies whose sole purpose is to sway public opinion.
The fact that Cannon Corner can completely ignore such a blatant breach of journalistic integrity should be a signal for everyone to keep their heads down.
Myopic doesn’t begin to describe the accuracy of the shooting.
