The renovation of Davis Apartments Building A at ETSU is now complete with the exception of the apartments being fully furnished.
Students began to occupy the apartments toward the end of January.
“The building really looks nice,” said Bonnie Burchett, director of Housing and Residence Life.
Renovations to Building A included new air conditioning, plumbing and new kitchen cabinets.
Davis also received larger refrigerators, loft beds and new windows. All the doors of Building A are now I.D.- card accessible.
Building A also received new fire alarms, a sprinkler system, along with new countertops, new blinds, and windows.
Some of the stoves had to be replaced because of age and constant usage.”Eventually all will have to be removed and replaced with new stoves,” Burchett said.
Lighting in the rooms received upgrades with large fluorescent lights.
All the rooms were painted standard white, with one wall painted blue.
Cable and Internet connections have been moved to better accessible locations within the rooms. New tile floors have replaced carpets for easy cleaning.
“I like the full-size refrigerator, there is more room for food,” said Resident Advisor Josh Gregg.
The full-size refrigerators replaced the old pantries, which created more kitchen space.
While the renovation process was going on students lived in Buildings B and C.
“They were great about moving, I really appreciate them moving with no problem,” Burchett said.
For this semester, the rent for living in Davis will remain the same. However, there is an expected increase however, that is above average for next fall. That increased amount will not be determined until this June. “Nothing is finalized,” Burchett said.
“There have been quite a few changes. It doesn’t look the same,” Burchett said.
Building B should be finished by May, and Building C will be renovated this summer and is expected to be completed by fall.
