Students looking for jobs after graduation should go to the Multicultural Career Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
The career fair is sponsored by the Office of Career Placement and Internship Services, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and WEMT FOX 39.
Career Placement and Multicultural Affairs have had a partnership since 1996, when the first multicultural career fair was produced, and FOX got involved three years ago.
“They just called and wanted to get involved,” said Jeanette Hill, the information research technician of career placement.
The career fair will host 39 organizations from all over the country.
Some of the expected participants are AmSouth Bank, Clayton Homes, Edward Jones Investments, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the FBI, United States Postal Service and Nuclear Fuel Services.
The employers are looking for people of all majors, but some of the requested areas were business-related, engineering, sciences, social work, education and health-related majors. Everyone is invited to attend.
“This career fair gives employers the opportunity to recruit students of color for full-time employment and promote diversity in the workplace,” Hill said.
Students that attend these specialized career fairs have an advantage over those that attend regular fairs.
“The information is more centralized,” said Dan Emmel, director of career placement. “Both the students and the employers get the information they need and don’t leave feeling confused.”
Job fairs are a good way for employers to talk to a variety of students at once and for students to talk to many employers at once.
“Job fairs work well; that’s why we have so many,” Emmel said.
The Multicultural Career Fair will be held in the Ballroom of the Culp Center from noon-3 p.m. Feb. 22.
