On April 5-6 Student Government Association elections will be held at ETSU. Students will be voting on president, vice president, secretary and senatorial seats.
Each of the candidates for the three main positions are running unopposed.
Also on the ballot will be an act to amend the SGA Constitution in order to remove two seats from the president’s cabinet.
The positions of secretary of interior and secretary of allocations will be eliminated if the amendment passes.
The secretary of interior’s job is to keep the president informed of all new campus organizations as well as keep a copy of their constitution and by-laws in the SGA office. This job has been absorbed by the Student Organization Resource Center.
The secretary of allocations position required the office-holder to help with the publication of the student telephone directory and student handbook. The university now takes care of this job and assistance is no longer needed by the SGA.
Lastly, students will have an opportunity to vote for or against an increase in the student activity fee. Students currently pay $4, if passed, the fee will increase to $20 and will become effective in fall 2005 semester. This new money would fund more campus activities.
Students are invited to vote online at www.etsu.edu. If you would like to vote for a write-in candidate, you may do so.
A successful write-in candidate must have at minimum, 12 votes. To place a write-in vote, you must know the person’s name and school email address as well as their major.
There are seats available in the senate for write-in candidates as well. No one is running for senate in the colleges of Public and Allied Health, the Graduate School and the James H. Quillen College of Medicine. The ETSU off-campus sites at Bristol and Kingsport also do not have candidates.
