You’ve seen the commercial before. You know, “There ain’t no lower class than Tennessee trash.”
Now sure, I hate any kind of trash being put in places other than the trash can, but one piece tops them all.
Cigarette butts.
I am not a smoker so maybe it makes my ideas different than others, but I can’t stand seeing a cigarette butt being thrown out of a window.
There may be good reasons why people do it. They could want to keep the smoky smell out of their car, they could think they are made of some instant biodegradable material that will decompose within seconds of hitting the ground, or they could just be lazy.
Whatever the case may be – my wish is that it ceases.
Next time you are stopped at a red light, look on the ground around the curbs. I am sure you will see about 40-50 butts hanging out there. It is not good for the environment and it is not a pleasant sight either.
Stacks of used cigarettes are not my idea of a holiday decoration.
There are some easy solutions for the smokers out there that do not know how to keep themselves from tossing their butts out the window.
1) Use the ashtrays your cars provide. They are those things that most people keep change in, but read your car manuals . they are really for ashes and cigarettes. Surprise, surprise!
2) Carry a plastic bag with you and toss them in there after you put them out. Then, throw the bag away (in a trash can) when you stop.
3) Now if you are ready for the ultimate solution I will give it to you. Stop smoking!
Okay, I am not trying to be such a smart-ass (okay, maybe I am) but it is not very difficult to throw away trash.
I know it can be inconvenient but it is important. I am not going to preach about global warming or the ozone layer. I am just hoping that some may consider another option when they light up in their cars next time.
Please, keep those butts off the ground!
