Senators have a large role in the decision-making process at ETSU. Concerts and contest are just a fraction of the issues student representatives get involved with every week.
Only a few weeks ago the student legislative body voted on a $300,000 financial agenda. The vote gave some organizations the ability to go places and do things that could have been impossible otherwise.
Now it is spring-cleaning time. New elections will be held online April 4-5.
Every senate seat is up for grabs.
SGA President, JR Husmillo said he wants students to apply. “Candidates will run for their respective colleges,” Husmillo said. “There are a designated number of seats in each college and those seats range in proportion to the enrollment in that college.”
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest on campus, therefore that college will have the most representatives. The total number of senate seats that will be filled has yet to be determined.
Students that have a desire to pound out important issues that plague the student body are encouraged to pick up application forms in the SGA office immediately. The completed forms are due by Friday, March 24.
Candidates are expected to attend seminars conducted by the election committee March 27 and 28. Then campaigning begins at midnight on March 30, before the electronic elections start.
The votes will be tallied and the announcements made on April 6 by 10 a.m. One of the biggest chores the newly elected legislators will face will revolve around Homecoming for the fall.
Many new and exciting topics are on the horizon for ETSU.
“Students that want to have a major impact on campus should run for senate,” Husmillo said.
The winners will have a hand in shaping the future of student life at ETSU.
