On April 4, students at East Tennessee State University will have the opportunity to learn more about Greek life. Panhellenic Council will be hosting “Meet and Greet the Greeks” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Cave.
“Students should attend this event to learn about Greek life,” said Caroline Ross, vice president of membership for Panhellenic. “Greek life is about more than parties and T-shirts. This is a great chance to meet new people and find out about recruitment in the fall.”
Ross said that the members of Panhellenic decided to host this event because they thought the Greek community needed to do more to attract current ETSU students to Greek life.
“Our hope is that students will interact with Greeks and decide to try recruitment in the fall,” Ross said.
In addition to learning more about Greek life, there will also be free food, and students will have the opportunity to compete for prizes.
Panhellenic will be encouraging interaction with sorority and fraternity members by handing out a short questionnaire that students are asked to complete, Ross said.
Students can pick up a questionnaire about all chapters attending “Meet and Greet the Greeks” from the Panhellenic booth. After students complete the questionnaire, they will be entered to win one of several prizes, Ross said.
Although Panhellenic will be hosting the event, sorority members from each chapter of Panhellenic and Pan-Hellenic, as well as fraternity members from IFC, will be on hand to answer any questions students may.
Many think that formal recruitment is only for freshmen, but Greek life is really for everyone, Ross said. “Many upperclassmen go through recruitment each year and make wonderful members,” Ross said. “We really want to target as many current students as possible because they understand how to manage their time and would make great new members.”
Ross said she would encourage everyone to try Greek life because of the benefits it offers students.
“I think going Greek was the best decision I have ever made,” Ross said. “It has allowed me to develop not only as a leader but also as an individual. I would love for everyone on this campus to experience this personal growth through Greek life.
