There are a lot of good things happening in sports at ETSU. My high hopes for men’s and women’s basketball to represent the Atlantic Sun in the NCAA tournament were left unfulfilled. However both Buc basketball teams had record setting seasons.
Tim Smith broke the school record for points. The senior sensation also ended the regular season tied for first place in the nation with steals per game with 3.4 an outing. Smith also earned a personal rank of 14th in the nation with the number of points he produced every contest with 22 per game. Smith is working out with the hopes of becoming the first Buccaneer drafted since Keith (Mr.) Jennings in the early ’90’s.
Dillion Sneed has also been notified that the international community is interested in his play. Sneed won the SoCon rebound title his junior season. The need to feed the Sneed also cooked up multiple double-double performances for the senior post player out of the Windy City.
Ben Rhoda might stay on as a graduate assistant with the Bucs after netting more than 1,000 points as a student athlete.
The Lady Bucs had a record setting season. They fought for more wins on the season (18) than any of Coach Kemp’s teams in the last decade.
B.J. Banjo ended the season in the top five scores ever at ETSU with 1,327. The talented guard from Baltimore, Md. is also ranked in the top ten in the nation at the end of the regular season in three pointers made per game.
Banjo hit an average of three three-point shots per game this season. Her accuracy from behind the arc was also good for the 20th ranking in the country for three-point percentage. Banjo was nice with the string music all year gaining an average of 19 points per game and in the 19th position in the nation in that category.
Other sports have been playing awesome this year as well. I want to encourage Buc sports supporters to root for the men’s baseball team on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Bucs take on the University of Tennessee at Cardinal Park.
Women’s tennis plays at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. Softball plays at Kiwanis home on Saturday as well with a double hitter slated for 1 p.m. The second game in that series should start around 3 p.m.
