The Lady Bucs softball team competed against the Lady Camels of Campbell in a make-up doubleheader on Monday, April 10. ETSU was looking to end its four-game losing streak, but lost its first game 2-5 and the second 2-7. Campbell’s wins in the Atlantic Sun contests pushes the Lady Bucs record to 13-28 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
ETSU got off to a slow start in the first game, getting one on base in the first inning, but were unable to get the run. Campbell went up 1-0 early in the first. It was five innings into the competition before left fielder Stephanie Cope was able to score for the Lady Bucs.
Despite tying it up at 1-1 in the fifth, the Camels seemed to run away with the game in the sixth inning, when they scored 4 runs and 2 hits. They had their opportunity at the bottom of the inning, but they squeezed out only one run, a homer to left field by Mary Catherine Vercoe. The game ended after an uneventful seventh inning, the Lady Bucs losing 2-5.
The second game of the doubleheader was much of the same for ETSU. The Campbell Camels got off to an early lead in the second inning, 1-0. The Bucs got on the board in the third when Courtney Jenkins was batted in by Jessie Hackworth.
The remainder of the game was an uphill battle for the Bucs who took a big hit in the sixth inning, in which Campbell scored 4 runs from 3 hits.
ETSU did manage to get one more RBI by Hackworth. By the end of the seventh, the Bucs were down 7-2.
The Bucs will take on Florida Atlantic in an Atlantic Sun Conference game today at 2 p.m.
This doubleheader will be at Metro-Kiwanis, the second game following at 4 p.m.
