Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK. Gay marriage is wrong. Gay marriage is OK.
Shut up.
Letters to the editor are great. They serve as a way for you to tell the editors, staff and general public (if the editors decide to publish it) how you feel about our paper and current topics. I’m sure some people even care about your opinion.
But why, in the name of your God, would you pick a topic that is so steeped in opinion? Arguing about whether gay marriage is morally correct – especially from a religious point of view – is akin to arguing about whether Coke or Pepsi is better (Royal Crown cola trumps them both).
The majority of the people who have a problem with gay marriage have a problem because of a religious view. With that in mind, all the arguments against gay marriage I’ve seen boil down to “because God said it’s wrong.”
Logically, that does not stand up, but the religious faith that it is based on is also not logically sound. Faith is exempt from logic.
Demanding a logical basis for a religious argument is pointless and more importantly, fruitless.
Conversely, the majority of the people who have no problem with gay marriage base their argument on logical evaluation of the situation. Giving objective evaluation a shot and trying to be free of presupposition, those who look at the debate logically do not factor faith into the situation. Therefore, demanding a faith-based conclusion from a logically based argument is equally pointless and fruitless.
In case you are not following, let me sum it up for you: Shut the hell up. Stop sending letters to the editor about this and free up some room for less beat-to-death topics like how I should stop writing because no one cares about what I say.
Faith based arguers; you will never convince your opponent by saying “God said so.” Instead, pray and ask God to continue to allow minorities rights to be ignored in this country.
Logic-based arguers, you will never convince your opponent by saying “That is not logically sound.” Instead, start writing your congressman. Get your opinion to someone that can actually do something about it.
