Voices of the Mountains, the choral wing of Symphony of the Mountains, is preparing for their season finale on May 6 at 7:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Tenn.
Voices will be in concert with their director, Dr. Pat Flannagan and accompanist Vicky Fey.
The performance will focus on American folk music and spirituals.
Repertoire for the event will feature an encore of the works performed in Carnegie Hall by choir members this winter, including Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom and a selection of spirituals arranged by Michael Tippett.
Also on the program will be Precious Lord arranged by Arnold Sevier, Battle Hymn of the Republic by Peter Wilhousky.
A triple quartet will revive a performance of Brahms’ Vocal Quartets, Op. 92, originally heard on the Paramount stage.
Fresh from their performance of Guiseppe Verdi’s Requiem with the Symphony of the Mountains in March, Voices looks forward to performing traditional American spirituals and folk tunes for their audience, including Steal Away, Nobody Knows and Go Down Moses.
“The warm, ethereal acoustics of First Presbyterian will be a beautiful backdrop for these works,” said Flannagan.
The concert is open to the public.
No tickets will be sold in advance but a suggested donation of $10, $5 for students, will be taken at the door.
