Dear Editor,
I am writing in regards to Eddie Jenkins’ article about the Goo Goo Dolls concert in the Lifestyles section of the Monday, April 24 issue of the East Tennessean. I hope he’s not planning for a career in journalism. His article was incredibly tasteless.
I’m not an expert in journalism but I was appauled by the “dog breath” portion of the article. What kind of decent writer stoops to that lowly level and writes that kind of crap?
In regards to the concert itself, I feel the Goo Goo Dolls put on a pretty good show. They gave us what we wanted. Their set list lasted much longer than Ludacris’ 45 minutes. They played most, if not all, of their huge hit songs.
The bass guitarist kept everyone on their toes with his incredible energy and fashion sense. I might also point out that their lyrics lacked obscenity and offensiveness contrary to lyrics of Ludacris.
I would also like to send SGA a thank you, not only for a good concert, but for handling criticism in a good manner.
Granted, students didn’t get their top choice, but SGA tried everything to get the next best.
SGA has also tried to handle criticism appropriately, and is making a valiant effort to listen to the voices of ETSU students and implement their suggestions about major concert events.
The voting is now more advertised. The genres change in an effort to appeal to everyone. Seating capacity of the Mini-Dome has increased, not to mention that we can actually use the Mini-Dome because of their efforts.
I will admit that I’m not a huge Goo Goo Dolls fan and I wasn’t extremely excited about the concert, but I am greatly pleased with SGA’s efforts and it was indeed a good concert. How many graduates of other colleges will be able to say “I attended eight major concert events on the campus of my school while in college?”
To anyone that is upset with SGA, my advice would be to quit whining, get involved and run for SGA.
