This fall, students at East Tennessee State University will have the opportunity to learn more about Greek life and maybe even experience it for themselves by going through sorority recruitment.
ETSU is home to four National Panhellenic Confer-ence sororities: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Delta and Sigma Kappa.
During recruitment week, students will have the opportunity to meet members from each chapter and learn more about sorority life.
Panhellenic Council, the governing body for these sororities, will be having fall formal recruitment Sept. 5-10.
“Everyone is eligible to go through recruitment,” said Caroline Ross, vice president of membership for Panhellenic Council. “Any woman who is interested in making life long friends and experiencing a different side of college life should consider going through recruitment.”
During the week of recruitment, women should expect to meet new people, gain a new perspective on Greek life and bond with different groups of people, Ross said.
Ross, a senior economics and banking finance major, said she went through recruitment to meet new people and make new friends.
“When I first came to ETSU, I only knew three people, and I thought this would help me find a new group of friends,” she said.
Some of the benefits of sorority life include lifelong friendships, career connections through alumni, lifetime membership and becoming well connected on campus.
As for the criticisms that being in a sorority is time-consuming and can lead to lower grades, Ross said this isn’t the case. “You get out of a sorority what you put into it,” she said. “All sororities have scholarship programs and study groups to support its members.”
Students can register for sorority recruitment through Panhellenic’s web site, www.etsu.edu/greeklife.
For more information, students can stop by SORC Suite B or talk to a recruitment counselor.
