The volleyball team came out with a mission to win. They held up to that promise by sweeping Eastern Kentucky in three games with the scores of 30-24,30-20, 30-27. The Bucs are now 11-5.
When the team was home last they lost two out of three games. Now they are getting close to conference play and are ready to win. “We are gelling as a team now, which is good, considering conference play is coming up soon,” said Nani Emerson. “I mean, we are halfway through the season, so I think we are coming together at the right time.”
It definitely shows in the toughness. Callie Kiselich and Jennifer Sartor led the team with 13 kills. Kaena Apana led the team with 19 digs.
Kiselich was terrific at the net. “We had good road games and we came home to dominate and win. That’s what you are supposed to do,” she said.
The team came out and played great defense. “We have had tough practices this week and the setter funneled the ball to the back row for more opportunities to get to the ball,” coach Lindsey Devine said. The saves were the major difference in the game. The Bucs were focused on winning.
The team as a whole came together and each had a part in the win. “They had a lot of hustle out there,” Devine said.
Emerson agreed. “We came out and just hustled and gave hard hits. I was excited and I just set the ball,” she said. “Eastern Kentucky’s errors were our gain. They fumbled with ball and we capitalized on that.”
As they are going on the road for the next two games they will be working on the little things.
“We won’t let the mental errors get us down. That is our problem right now,” said Devine.
The Bucs hit the road for their next two games at Gardner-Webb and Campbell on Sept. 28 and 30, respectively.
