Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to Dallas Tester’s article, ‘Not feeling too Well’, published Thursday, Sept. 28. Thank you, Mr. Tester, for standing up for what is right and good, even if it isn’t popular.
This response is not intended for the population at large but to all who call themselves Christian, as many on this campus do. This is not proposed to condemn, but rather to stir you. Being a Christian is more than just saying you are one.
I was not surprised to hear of these goings on. Many of the churches Paul wrote to in his Epistles had similar problems, and while they are not new problems, they certainly still need to be dealt with. You can accept the people without accepting their behaviors. The people who attend must be made aware that there is a difference. The church isn’t a bar. It is a place of worship, fellowship and INSTRUCTION. It would be easier to get that if your desire was to know Him. Just so we’re clear -the church is a holy place, a gathering of the ‘called out’ for a specific purpose at a specific time.
A Christian is a person who has openly declared with their mouth that Jesus Christ is their Lord and they believe in His finished work at the cross of Calvary, His death and resurrection.
Now, I say this in love, that after you have received the precious gift of salvation you should no longer want to live the way the world does. Most likely you will have to change some things in order to follow the teachings of Jesus.
A true Christian shines the light of the gospel into the darkness of this present day. The God you serve isn’t just about quantity, He really cares about quality.
Your life is now about a relationship between you and the Creator of the Universe. His desire is that ALL people should come to the full knowledge of His great love.
You’ve been made righteous in His sight and should now, therefore, start desiring to act like it. He accepts you unconditionally but it is never His will to watch you destroy yourself, as you have been covered by Christ’s blood (see Hebrews 9:11-28).
Find a Bible-based church, get involved, start living as you were intended to and certainly, the person you seek in church should be the person of Jesus Christ, not a one night stand.
