It is near the end of the fall semester, and graduation for many students is lurking just around the corner. Instead of waking up, getting ready and going to class, many students will more than likely be heading off to begin a career in their chosen field.
However, before students decide to venture off into the real world, it is wise to make preparations to help pave the way.
An event called the Graduation Celebration that took place on Thursday, Oct. 19, did just that. Held in the ballroom of the D.P. Culp Center, students were free to check out what this program had to offer.
Students had an opportunity to participate in one-on-one counseling dealing with issues such as debt and financial aid. There were also professionals there to help with rsums and assist them with any concerns.
Future graduates could also get tips on how to dress professionally, along with makeup and skin care tips. They even had a beautician there ready to give any needy student a haircut.
Seniors could pick up their cap and gowns and also have their pictures made. There was a station in which caps could be decorated to fit each individual student’s sense of style. Invitations could be ordered as well. This event offered juniors and seniors a time in which they could order their class rings, as long as they have 60 or more earned credit hours. “This is a one-stop shop for students,” said Lee Ann Davis, director of Alumni programs said, “Appreciative people find value in this.”
Many tables were set up to provide students with assistance and information beneficial to them for their future careers.
The Graduation Celebration is an event that has been taken over by the Alumni Association and it normally takes place every semester before graduation.
The program gives students a chance to make preparations and take advice that they could possibly carry with them throughout their careers.
All students are welcome, not only alumni.
The next one will take place sometime in March 2007.
