After two road losses to North Carolina and South Carolina, the Lady Bucs came home to face Davidson.
Hoping to get on the winning track, Davidson had other ideas. The Lady Bucs lost 82-68.
The ladies came out with great athleticism, but fell flat in the end. “We started off strong, got confident and fell short,” said Coach Karen Kemp.
Their free throws hurt them down the stretch as they made only 14 of 20.
The tempo was not their style. “We are used to pushing the tempo and keeping it there,” Kemp said. “We didn’t do that tonight.”
Despite starting off the season at 0-3, these games are practice for the conference. “I always schedule these types of games,” she said. “They show us what we need to do for the coming season.”
The shooting seemed forced during some points in the game.
The Lady Bucs only shot 34.8 percent overall. Because Davidson worked hard on the defensive end, the ladies could not get into in offensive rhythm and turned the ball over 22 times.
“Siarre [Evans] is a freshman and will do freshman things,” Kemp said. “That is why she needs more time on the floor to get out those nerves.”
Michelle DeVault and Evans led the team in scoring. DeVault scored a team-high 21 points and Evans scored 16 points with five assists.
Brooke Wilhoit chipped in nine points with four assists.
The next game will be Wednesday against Appalachian State. Game time is 7 p.m. in the Mini-Dome.
