Many a battle has been waged in order to preserve our democratic way of life. But do you think George Washington would have thought twice about crossing the Delaware if he knew that athletes would be part of our democratic process one day?
For decades now, washed-up athletes have been trying their hand in politics after their limelight fades.
If you think about it sports is the perfect boot camp for politics. What better prepares someone for the rigors of government than playing professional sports.
The clichs, lying to the press, the scandals and the pandering to the masses give athletes a clear and distinct advantage over the regular crooked politician. Don’t believe me? Look at Heath Shuler.
Shuler spent four miserable years in Washington as the quarterback for the Redskins and what did that earn him – a return trip to Washington as a congressman in his home state of North Carolina.
This just proves the old adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
What’s shocking is that the voters of North Carolina supposedly made an informed decision, and I use that term lightly, in electing Shuler.
This makes me ponder the question, “If Heath Shuler tried to pass a bill would it be intercepted?”
I guess democracy really is mob rule and Congress must run a no-huddle offense.
What the @$#!.
