The guys just keep on rolling along in conference play. The Bucs are now 8-1 in conference.
They defeated Kennesaw State University 78-66 in overtime on Friday night.
ETSU jumped out to an early lead then just could not hold on as the Owls took over the lead and were up by five at half with the score 33-38.
In the second half, the Bucs came out and tied it at 35. When Ronnel Wooten committed his fourth foul, ETSU started making a comeback with a 9-0 run.
Then with 5:08 left in the half, Wooten came back in and KSU tied it at 61.
The overtime was mainly a free-throw contest. Fortunately, the Bucs made them. In fact, the score in overtime was 17-5.
Eryk Thomas and Brad Nuckles, both senior forwards recorded double-doubles.
Thomas’ was his first career double-double. Nuckles’ was his fourth straight double-double.
“The way we came back in the second and won in overtime was based on defense and confidence that we can win the game,” Thomas said. “We also made foul shots when we needed to.”
“I was really disappointed in my first half performance, so I stepped it up in the second and really came around in overtime,” Nuckles said.
Coach Murry Bartow said that in order to win they keep the other team under 69.
“Considering we went into overtime and still kept them less than 69 points that is saying a lot for our defense,” Bartow said.
With a game against Belmont coming up on Thursday, Jan. 25, Bartow says that they are going to rest up and take a little time off of training.
Thomas also commented on the game against Belmont. “We are going to rest up, relax a little and focus on winning,” Thomas said.
“With school starting and all, we have a lot more on our minds now. So, some of the guys are tired and need rest.”
The game will be held at Belmont at 7 p.m.
