After coming off an amazing win against North Florida, ETSU’s Lady Bucs came out Saturday afternoon with power.
They defeated Jacksonville 68-61 which puts them at 7-1 in conference play.
The Lady Bucs led during the entire first half and looked good despite some turnovers.
They picked up where they left off and kept scoring until the last five minutes.
At that point Jacksonville started coming back and briefly took the lead. But the Lady Bucs’ held off a late run to secure the victory
Late in the game SeniorBrooke Wilhoit brought the crowd to their feet with a circus shot.
Wilhoit took the ball to the hoop and as she was falling out of bounds she threw the ball up and it amazingly went in.
Coach Karen Kemp said that was not a set play. “We did not set up for that,” Kemp said. “It was a floater in the lane, falling out of bounds shot that went in.”
Kemp mentioned that Jacksonville is a very athletic team. “They are smaller and created a mismatch which pulled Michele DeVault out,” Kemp said.
She also commented on the second half run by Jacksonville. “We could have lost our composure but we didn’t. That is why we won.”
Siarre Evans acquired a double-double with 12 rebounds and 13 points.
Going up against Kennesaw State next Saturday the Lady Bucs will face another challenging match. “I think it will be a tough one,” Kemp said. “Road games are always harder.
