The 51st-ranked ETSU men’s tennis team picked up their seventh straight victory as they dropped Winthrop, 7-0 on Thursday. With the victory the Bucs improve to 20-4 on the season, while Winthrop falls to 9-9.
The Bucs took a 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles. In the No. 1 position, Travis Sandlant and Alex Ahlgren defeated Rodrigo Santos and Germano Knorr, 8-7, while Enrique Olivares and Sebastian Serrano picked up their ninth straight victory as they breezed by Jorge Padilla and Alejandro Portugal, 8-3 in the second slot. Lisandro Picardo and Daniel Isaza completed the sweep as they defeated Thiago Barbosa and Bastian Moldenhke, 8-1 in the third position.
In singles action, Burmazovic defeated Rodrigo Santos, 7-5, 7-6 in the No. 1 position, while Olivares cruised past Bastian Moldenhke, 6-2, 6-1 in the second slot. In the No. 3 position, Felix Insaurralde breezed by Alejandro Portugal, 6-1, 6-1 as Serrano defeated Arthur Takahashi, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 slot. Competing in the No. 5 slot, Picardo dropped Jorge Padilla, 6-3, 6-0, while Ahlgren defeated Thiago Barbosa, 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth position.
“I’m really proud of the way the guys finished out the regular season,” said head coach Yaser Zaatini. “Sometimes you worry about being able to motivate a team that has already accomplished some of their goals during the season. They came out and played very focused and I hope they can maintain that focus for the tournament.
