So you’ve graduated high school and enrolled in college. You’re going for the four-year plan, right? Well let me introduce you to a new idea: The 10-year plan.
I’m not saying to go for this plan by any means. Any sane person would know that the four-year deal sounds like a much smarter idea. But the 10-year plan looks like what I ended up with. That’s right, my friends. I have been in college for seven years.
Now I am not talking about a straight seven years. I’ve just had a few minor setbacks, such as a full time job and a couple breaks here and there.
Perhaps I’m just a tad on the lazy side. But who ever came up with this four-year plan anyway?
I say take as long as you want in college. What’s the rush? I’ve been in the real world and personally I like the college life better. Maybe I will just be one of those professional students. Sometimes my career choice changes daily. One day I want to pursue a career in comedy, the next I want to be a psychologist, then I think about a career in theatre and next maybe I could be a musician.
Am I the only person that has this problem? I think not.
Online, I found the name of a guy who has been going to school since 1994. He has enough credits to graduate with degrees in communications, liberal arts, theatre, health and women’s studies . and yet he still stays in school. What if I’m like this guy? I see no problem with that.
I certainly don’t see myself getting married and starting a family in the near future since I seem to stay in a “chronically single” state. So why not just get all the education I can?
It kind of reminds me of that movie, “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.” He was in college for seven years!
I used to regret not graduating with my high school friends.
But now that I have made new friends and I have found satisfaction in the choices that I have made.
So if you’re one of those people who have been in college for what seems like forever . don’t fret my pet.
Just remember it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get your degree . as long as you have something to show for it in the end.
