On Friday, the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians are going to start the 2007 American League Championship series after dominating their respective division series. The Red Sox are loaded with postseason experience and a bunch of guys that can be considered for the title “Mr. October.”
They consistently have one of the best lineups in all of baseball and this postseason is no different with David “Big Papi” Ortiz leading the way with an otherworldly .714 BA this postseason.
The Sox offense has clutch guys all over the field and guys like Kevin Youkilis and Mike Lowell being the unsung heroes.
The Indians counter with a fantastic DH of their own in Travis Hafner, and they have the best leadoff man left in the postseason Grady Sizemore.
The catchers are both integral parts of these two teams. Jason Varitek of the Red Sox is a master of guiding his pitchers through games and has postseason experience that makes him priceless to his team. Victor Martinez is baseball’s best offensive catcher and will be trouble for any of the Red Sox pitchers.
When it comes to starting pitching Josh Beckett, of the Sox, is the best postseason starter in baseball.
The Sox also have Schilling and Matsuzaka to round out a great pitching staff. The Tribe has Sabathia and Carmona, who are new to the postseason, but have been stellar all year.
The bullpen edge has to go to the Sox with the games stingiest setup-closer combo in the Majors, Okajima and Papelbon.
The Tribe has save master/e.r.a. failer Borowski to close out games.
In the end this series looks pretty even, but I have to go with the Sox in seven games because of the clutch performances that they always come up with.
