Yesterday the ETSU Counseling Center and Campus Advocates Against Sexual Violence sponsored National Love Your Body in the Center for Physical Activity’s Multipurpose Room.
Love Your Body Day is a nationally recognized day, established to counter the harmful messages of misleading advertisements, and to emphasize the importance of appreciating the uniqueness and beauty of women’s natural bodies.
This year’s festival had representatives from areas such as bodywork massage, skin care, relaxation, sexual health, feminine health care and fitness.
“Today was a day to celebrate the natural beauty of you,” said Heather Deyton, a graduate assistant.
The new setting in the CPA welcomed the more than 150 students and faculty.
The biggest hit of the event were the free massages. Three different local businesses: Body, Health and Mind Center, Franklin Health & Fitness Center, and the Reflections of Health School provided five massage therapists. Almost a hundred people received massages and spa product samples.
This year’s event was filled with opportunities and information promoting the acceptance of a natural, health lifestyle for both men and women.
Anyone in attendance could gather refreshment and visit the many booths for a variety of information.
The Washington County Health Department and Planned Parenthood handed out information promoting better health and safe sex. Pure Life Chiropractic gave free back screenings.
The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance gave out brochures and ribbons.
Amnesty International provided information about violence in other countries.
For the Counseling Center, Deyton put together an exhibit to display the difference in offensive and positive advertisements.
“This year went better than expected,” said Deyton.
Moving the event did not hurt the event, and next year, the Counseling Center may hold it in the CPA. They also hope to fit yoga back into the schedule and add more for the male students and faculty that attended.
