The grand opening of the Tree House Snackbar was held on Monday, from 10-11 a.m.? The event was celebrated with an appearance by the Mayfield Dairy cow. Freebies such as cups, bags and key chains were handed out to students for the event.
In addition to the free goodies, a drawing was held later in the day where students could win shoes, an iPod, or even a bicycle.
Marilyn Yorrick, the manager of the snack bar, was one of the volunteers.
“The snack bar started out with only one cash register, but due to so much business, another one had to be added,” said Yorrick, who is excited about the snack bar’s success.
Yorrick said she believes the students enjoy the snack bar because of the mixture of food as well as the convenient location. Though the grand opening was held on Monday, the snack bar has been open for two weeks.
What makes the Tree House desirable to students is the eclectic mixture of food. A variety of fresh sushi rolls are prepared daily by an on-site sushi chef and hot bowls consisting of veggies, meat and rice are available. For students who prefer more traditional American fare, there are hamburgers and nachos.
Jessica Moore, a junior, likes the snack bar because it is close to her classes in the surrounding buildings.?As far as the food is concerned, Moore had the hot bowl and liked it for the most part.
“You can’t go many places and get a decent size of rice and veggies for $5.50, although it could have been hotter,” said Moore.
The ETSU Web site describes the snack bar as a grab-and-go dining option and, therefore, no indoor dining is provided. Just outside the snack bar there are dining tables and a patio?for students to enjoy their food.
The Tree House snack bar is located in the Veterans Memorial Circle near Brooks Gym.? Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
