Celebrating ETSU’s record enrollment this year, the university will be engaging in a Student Giving Campaign. Every student is encouraged to participate by donating $1. “Building a Better Tomorrow” is the inspiration for the giving campaign this year.
Each year faculty and staff within the Tennessee Board of Regents system engage in a campaign that raises money for various charities across the state. ETSU’s faculty and staff have contributed more than $400,000 over the past five years.
This year Human Resources has joined with the Student Government Association, SGA, with one common goal in mind; to give back to the community that has supported ETSU students for so long.
“This community gives so much support to our school and our students, this is our opportunity to give back to a community is so giving to us,” said Joy Fulkerson, coordinator for Greek life and service programs.
This year the annual ETSU Giving campaign will be launching the Student Giving Campaign, inviting students to participate in this charitable event.
This is the first year that students have been involved in the program.
Although students donate to charities throughout the year, this campaign gives students an opportunity to increase overall campus monetary contributions and provides a mean of documenting the significant monetary contributions being donated. The overall goal for the Student Giving Campaign is to raise $13,500.
The Student Government Association voted for United Way as the charity of choice that would receive the money raised.
“United Way gives to various organizations in the area and they have a better understanding of where the money is needed most,” said Joshua M. Shearin, president of the Student Government Association.
SGA will have volunteers collecting donations with cash ready containers to clubs, ministries, residence hall administrators, etc.
Collection booths will also be set up Nov. 5-9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. They will be located in the Culp Center in front of Main Meal, in the Atrium, and in the post office. There will also be a cash-ready container in the SORC. Be sure to look for United Way thermometers on campus gauging the donations made.
The Each One Give One campaign is requesting $1 per person.
“We are known for our close-knit community here on campus and we are the university of choice,” said Martha-Edee Adams, co-chair of the ETSU Giving Campaign. “This is our opportunity to solidify that idea and really come together for one really great cause.”
The deadline for the goal of $13,500 is Nov. 15. For more information contact Fulkerson or Martha-Edde Adams.
