This is the first of many articles to help you impress your lovers, friends and parents with your new-found cooking skills. We are simply two friends who love to cook and want to share the love around the campus of ETSU.
In each article we will teach you inexpensive and simple ways to create gourmet cuisine with a college student’s budget. Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner we figured we’d show you a recipe which consisted of an aphrodisiac, in this case bananas.
Bananas have been a popular aphrodisiac since ancient times due to resemblance of a phallus.
By making this sinful dessert for your valentine you are bound to wake up on the right side of the bed the next morning.
Bananas Foster is most commonly associated with five-star fine dining restaurants and appeals to those of high society and who doesn’t deserve to be treated like a member of high society on Valentine’s Day?
Here are the ingredients you will need:
cooking spray
2-3 bananas
1 bottle of caramel sauce
1 pint of vanilla ice cream
Don’t forget to use generic store brands, they are just as tasty and are usually one-third of the price as name-brands.
How to make your poor man’s bananas foster:
1. Lightly spray skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes. While your pan is heating, cut the bananas into quarter-inch thick slices.
2. Place bananas in even layer in skillet and let sizzle until golden brown for 2-3 minutes, depending on your stove-tops temperature settings.
3. Flip bananas over gently with your favorite kitchen utensil (metal, not disposable!) and allow to heat for same amount of time.
4. Coat bananas evenly with caramel sauce just long enough to heat the sauce, 2 minutes tops.
5. Scoop ice cream into serving bowl and top with your banana and caramel mixture and enjoy with your lover!
Additional tips: If you have cinnamon or nutmeg on hand add a pinch to the caramel sauce while heating. You can also add your favorite nuts such as almonds, pecans or walnuts to add a special touch.
This poor man’s version of bananas foster should only cost approximately $9-10 for two people to enjoy, try getting that at five-star restaurant!
