The ETSU women’s basketball squad handled the Lipscomb Lady Bisons, 89-65, Saturday afternoon.
The meager crowd of less than 1,000 splotched the Memorial Center in pink as “Think Pink” day was observed in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. Players sported pink socks and head bands in honor of Think Pink day.
During pre-game ceremonies four seniors were recognized during senior night for their achievements over the years at ETSU.
Nichelle Akers (Sumter, S.C.) has to date 111 games as a Lady Buc, and Jenny Norman (Peachtree City, Ga.) has averaged over 10 points in her career.
Kelly Turman (Atlanta) has to date 98 games as a Lady Buc, and Michele DeVault has averaged over 11 points a game in her career and holds the 3-point record at ETSU. The Lady Bucs took a quick 39-28 half-time lead as they controlled the Lady Bisons on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Lipscomb was forced into 13 first-half turnovers and held to 30 percent from the field. Strength on the glass helped the Lady Bucs out-rebound the Bisons 26-20 respectively in the first 20 minutes of play.
The high percentage shooting spilled over into the second half for the Lady Bucs as they averaged 44 percent from the field in the game overall. Offensive rebounds lead to multitudes of second chance points and ultimately helped ETSU run up a respective margin in the end.
The Lady Bucs improve their record to 14-11 overall, and a conference leading 10-2 in the A-Sun. Whereas Lipscomb suffers its fourth consecutive loss and falls to 6-20, and 4-8 in A-Sun action.
Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.) led the Lady Bucs with 19 points and nine rebounds, one rebound short of a double-double.
Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) was perfect from the free-throw line, 3-point and field as she posted 14 points. Michele Devault and Jenny Norman also contributed 14 points to the win. The Lady Bucs will be back at home Monday night one last time and will face Belmont. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
