On Monday night, the ETSU Lady Bucs gave the Belmont Lady Bruins a night to remember. However, it would not be good memories for Belmont as the Lady Bucs crushed the Lady Bruins 102-59, Belmont’s worst loss since joining the Atlantic Sun Conference.
“We played one of our best games of basketball tonight,” said Lady Bucs coach Karen Kemp. “I was really pleased with our all-around effort and how focused we were. We need to come out and play one game at time and let people know we are a pretty good team.”
The 102 points were the most that ETSU had posted on an opponent since last year’s total of 104 against Appalachian State.
The win gave the Lady Bucs a 15-11 overall record and a 11-2 conference record. The win also gave the Lady Bucs the sole possession of first in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a half-game lead over Jacksonville.
The Lady Bucs started slow in the first half, but got a lift as they got five 3-pointers in the last 12 minutes of the half to jump out to a substantial lead. The barrage of 3’s and a stingy defense that forced 11 turnovers gave the Lady Bucs a 50-30 lead at the break.
The second half saw ETSU continue their impressive dominance. The Lady Bucs started the half on a 7-0 run, and never looked back as they cruised to the victory. Belmont could not keep up with the Lady Bucs as ETSU led by 47 with 3:48 remaining after pulling the four seniors in their final contest at the Memorial Center.
ETSU was almost flawless in the contest as they hit 13 of 18 from behind the 3-point line, and outscored Belmont 34-12 in the paint. The Lady Bucs saw 12 of 13 players score in the contest as TaRonda Wiles led the way for the Lady Bucs with her 21 points. Michelle DeVault had 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while Siarra Evans added 17 points. Jenny Norman and Latisha Belcher had 13 points.
The ETSU Lady Bucs travel to Campbell this weekend to start a three game road trip before the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
