No money for parkingDear Editor,
I just finished reading the article on parking and, believe me, this is outrageous. I am a 25-year-old “non-traditional” student which, from what I have learned, also means non-resident.
Every morning I drive 45 minutes to an hour (depending on traffic) just to arrive on campus in time to walk to class. I have absolutely no problem with the hike. It has been a part of my life for almost a year now. Truthfully, it’s great exercise.
On the weekends, I work in retail. Now, here’s the sad part: my biweekly paycheck still does not equal the money it will cost just to receive a good parking spot.
It barely touches the $200 parking spots. My college is paid for by financial aid and student loans. Despite my less than adequate income, I still have to find a way to pay bills, buy the gas it takes to get to school and I still have to eat.
I don’t have the extra money it will take to buy a parking spot and I’m sure that I am not the only student in this situation.
It is unbelievable that this college wants to charge us to park. Apparently, we don’t pay enough in tuition and books and they need to tack on extra expenses. It seems absurd that something like this can be implemented without a vote. It affects everyone at this school.
Why don’t you let us vote on this issue, Mr. Collins?
Let’s give democracy a try. At the very least, cut down the price of parking; we pay enough already.
