For this spring, fashion is all about color. So much bright color showed up on this spring’s fashion shows someone might have thought that Paris had been washed over by a watercolor tidal wave.
The 80s thing is still going strong, just in different aspects of the decade’s fashion sense. Do you remember that one color that dominated the 80s? Yep, fuchsia is back in style, believe it or not.
Not only is fuchsia making a headstrong return to the fashion mainstream, but pinks, blues, oranges, purples, greens and yellows are all over the runways and fashion magazines. These colors are showing up in solid pieces as well as prints.
Prints are a big trend for spring. Florals especially, are everywhere. Every single fashion magazine and fashion show from New York to Paris was invaded with floral prints.
Animal prints and tribal prints are also big. Color blocking is a major theme that we have not seen in a few seasons but it is showing up this spring again. This look can be mimicked with the clothes you already have if you don’t have the money to go buy a color block dress. The way to do it is to put a splash of color into a solid black ensemble with a bright belt or vest.
Another decade style that is still popular is the 70s. A few years ago the 70s style came back and the styles from that decade were taking over the fashion scene. The difference this season is that not everything 70s is fashionable for spring. The look that is, however, is flowy 70s frocks for women’s dresses, skirts and long tops.
In the hair business, salons in fashion hot spots like New York and Los Angeles are seeing many popular blondes trading in their golden locks for rich, deep brunette tones. Agyness Deyn, a model famous for her chic short blonde coif has shaken the designers recently by going brunette.
She is not the only one. Many models and movie stars have gone from light to night recently. As for nails, the dark almost black jewel-tone polish look has been replaced by seriously bright matte colors to match the bright look of the clothes. Don’t throw out the dark polish though; it is a fun trend that may be back for next winter.
For men, the bright look is popular as well. Models wearing thin colorful v-neck sweaters with dark pants walked down the runways for Versace, John Galliano and others. Big buttons seemed to be a theme. Double lines of buttons are on jackets and coats. This trend looks like the pea coat that is always in style, but more exaggerated like the buttons on a toy soldier jacket.
Leather is also still a very nice look on men, but isn’t leather almost always popular? Short brown leather jackets, including the bomber style is still popular. Members Only jackets are still stylish. Also, shiny, black leather is big on the runways shows this spring, as a contrast to the bright sweaters and vests. Blue and brown were in almost every fashion show.
Suit vests are being worn without the three-piece suit. Straight leg jeans are still the denim look of choice. Shorts this season are not baggy cargo styles like before. They are more straight style, like short khaki dress pants. Tank tops are very big this season as well. Not the wife beater type, but the sleeveless ringer style.
As for accessories, longer necklaces are being worn everywhere. A lighter color fedora is a must for the spring season. High top Nikes are showing up as the ideal sneaker style for men.
