To quote Peter from “Family Guy,” “You know what really grinds my gears?” When people do not take pride in their work anymore, that is “what really grinds my gears.”
I hate to turn in a paper that I do not feel proud of. I am not going to lie and say that it never happens to me, I’m a college student after all.
There are, of course, many times that I have way too many priorities happening at the same time, and something will have to take the backburner.
But when I do turn in something to a professor or elsewhere that I do not feel proud of, it seriously bothers me. I hate that I did not put 100 percent into the project. I am incredibly embarrassed to turn something like that in to anyone.
However, I have been noticing that this has been happening constantly for many people. Some people almost never turn in work that is even acceptable. Doing this all the time can cause people who are actually doing their part a lot of problems when they are not expecting to have to pick up some else’s slack.
I know that everyone gets busy as a college student, but if a person cannot ever try at what they are expected to do, they should not even make the commitment to begin with. Why do people do it? Has this been happening to you? I just cannot understand.
So the next time you think about adding a class, joining a club or organization, volunteering for something, beginning a new project, auditioning for something, applying for a new job, etc., ask yourself if you really have the time to put forward your best effort most of the time. Otherwise you will just end up causing the other people you are working with a lot of trouble that they did not bargain for.
Am I the only one who feels this way, I truly doubt it. If there is something that really “grinds your gears,” write in to me and tell me about it editor@etsu.edu.
