Dear Editor,
This is in response to Mira Gerard’s letter on April 3 complaining about the choice of Carrie Underwood for the Spring Concert. In her letter, Gerard stated that “the SGA and Buctainment [should] take a look at their policies on how they distribute concert funding and consider making this campus have something to offer that would be more global, relevant and singular at least half, if not more, of the time.”
I would like to make it clear that Buctainment has no part in planning or implementing these Major Event Concerts. There is often confusion over this but the Major Event Concert and the funds for it are controlled completely by the SGA and, whether or not you like who comes, they do a fantastic job putting together a concert for over 8,000 people with minimal volunteer staff.
For those who are unaware, Buctainment is the ETSU programming board and we are always interested in new ideas for events to bring to campus. We are beginning to plan for the fall semester now.
If anyone is interested in helping bring “global, relevant and singular” or just plain fun events to ETSU, Buctainment meets every Monday at 4:35 p.m. in the Culp Center, Meeting Room 1. You can also e-mail us your thoughts at etsufun@etsu.edu. We’d love to hear from you.
