On Friday, ETSU’s Marksmanship Club hosted Open Range Day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Mini-Dome on the Brooks Gym side.
No experience was required and anyone was able to come shoot semi-automatic weapons with silencers for cheap prices, at around 25 cents a round.
The morning started with an array of 15 different guns being offered with the Glock 19, MAC 11 submachine gun, 9mm AR15 and the .357 Revolver being featured.
By the end of the afternoon, however, there were only four guns left after ammunition had run out for the others. There were also a variety of targets available.
There was a large turnout with people waiting in lines. The intense smell of gunpowder filled the room while empty shells not only lay all over the ground, but also flew from the guns that were being shot.
Ear and eye protection was required to enter the range and members of the Marksmanship Club were available for help. They showed attendees how to load ammo, how to stand, and how to aim.
“I shot the Mac 11 submachine gun and the Glock 9mm,” said freshman Craig Lewis. “I’m in the Marksmanship Club but, I’ve never shot a gun near this size. It was really exciting. I wish I could keep shooting.
