The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recently honored East Tennessee State University for its ETSU 101 President’s Classroom program.
ETSU was a Grand Award Finalist among the CASE Public Affairs Programs and won an Award of Excellence for the newly developed project. ETSU is included in the District III region of CASE, which encompasses over 550 colleges and universities throughout the southeast.
The ETSU 101 President’s Classroom program allows participants an opportunity to experience being a doctor, a movie producer, a songwriter, a nurse, a golfer, an engineer, and a basketball coach. The classes have been composed of three current or former mayors; three city commissioners; 36 presidents, CEOs, and business owners; and 24 other leaders from the community. From their experience, these President’s Classroom participants have generated support for ETSU in numerous ways.
“We take tremendous pride in the development of our President’s Classroom,” said ETSU President Dr. Paul E. Stanton, Jr. “It is rewarding that others recognize the significance of this program as a promotional instrument for the university to highlight regionally some of the exemplary programs we offer here.”
Dr. Richard A. Manahan, ETSU Vice President for University Advancement and President of the ETSU Foundation, emphasizes that winning these awards allows ETSU to thrive and compete among other national universities. “This is a confirmation by our fellow colleges and universities regarding ETSU’s commitment to improvement and reaching out to our communities,” he said.
