A celebration uniting the ETSU campus with the common goal of raising funds for cancer research will take place 6 p.m. Friday evening.
This annual event, Relay for Life, raises money for cancer research and honors those who have battled the disease.
This year the event has already raised $18,029.07, and has 489 participants. Participant can pay their commitment fee of $10 online or at the race.
According to the American Cancer Association, donations to Relay For Life support the American Cancer Society’s cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient service programs.
Thirty-nine teams have signed up to walk the relay, including several fraternities, sororities, and clubs.
“I walked all 12 hours last year, and I am going to do it again this year,” Lauren Hoag a junior said. “Alpha Phi Omega is going to have a TV and a Wii for participants to pay to play. All donations to play go to cancer research.”
Booths with games and refreshments will be available for all walkers.
“SAE fraternity and Kappa Delta have a team together. We have 15 to 12 pledges walking an hour and then switching out,” Scott Kitts, a Sigma Alpha Epsilon, said.
Kappa Delta member Tory Vance says that each pledge is trying to raise $100 each.
