The East Tennessee State University Arboretum staff is looking for volunteers to assist with a Flowering Tree Evaluation. No special knowledge is required – just a love of trees and gardens.
With grant support from the Harris Fund for Washington County, the ETSU Arboretum planted many unusual trees throughout the ETSU campus during 2003-2004.
The trees were selected for their suitability for planting in Northeast Tennessee. Four years later, the time has come to evaluate their performance.
Volunteers will meet May 14, at 10 a.m. in Room 320 of Brown Hall. Lunch will be provided, and the event will conclude at 2 p.m.
While touring campus, participants will use rating forms to record their opinions on the appearance, health and attractiveness of various trees.
Pictures will be available to show each tree when it was planted to use as a comparison with its current appearance.
ETSU Arboretum staff will compile the results from this and a previous survey.
Favorite trees will then be highlighted in a brochure presenting recommendations for households across the region.
To register for the event or for further information, contact Dr. Frosty Levy of the ETSU Department of Biological Sciences at 439-6926 or via levyf@etsu.edu.
