The Upper East Tennessee Science Fair will be held April 24, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Culp Center ballroom.
Sponsored by ETSU and the Johnson City Kiwanis Club, the event features approximately 350 exhibits submitted by fourth through eighth grade students from over 40 schools in Northeast Tennessee, as well as home-schooled students in the Northeast Tennessee Home Educators Association, which includes several from Southwest Virginia.
Professional scientists from ETSU and various local companies will judge the competition. More than $5,000 in prize money, donated by Kiwanis, Eastman Chemical Co. and Studsvik Inc. in Erwin, will be awarded to student winners and their schools. Studsvik is a new sponsor this year and is providing five $100 prizes in the physical science category. In addition, the Tennessee Academy of Science will award four $100 prizes and ETSU’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Services will award two $100 prizes.
