Relationships come, relationships go but truth be told some may leave you whimpering like a ninny, foolishly engaging in acts of self-pity and ultimately diversion.
No one is there to capture our ridiculous nature at these times of extreme low; to document the tell-tale signs of a breakup gone sour, until now.
From the writers of “Knocked up” and “40 Year-Old Virgin,” (Apatow & Crew) comes a comedy about the pains of breaking up and how hard it can be to get over.
Comedian Jason Segel plays Peter Breter, a struggling musician who just got dumped by his beautiful, TV star actress girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). Segel’s every move is in attempt to forget Sarah Marshall and as he struggles with it, he decides to escape to the beautiful Oahu, Hawaii for a little R&R, alone.
However, Sarah (Bell) is there with her British rockstar boyfriend Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). The plot is completely predictable and yet new and innovative, mostly due to the authenticity of the characters.
With actors such as Bill Hader, playing Segel’s level-headed brother, Paul Rudd, playing the hotel surf instructor and Jonah Hill (“Superbad”) playing a big mouth hotel employee with a giant man crush on Aldous Snow, the movie falls into the comedic caliber of others in the Apatow & Crew collection.
Colorful and engaging, the film has an appropriate amount of hilarity but at the same time it’s relatable to life. It’s like laughing at yourself or your friends at certain moments in the film.
The film’s a little filthy, a little disorderly at places yet overall it’s probably one of the best comedies of the year, well worth your time, money and definitely your laughter.
