In an email to the ETSU community Tuesday, it was announced that ETSU Health has received a limited number of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccines and will host a by appointment only vaccine clinic March 20 and 21.

According to the email, signed by ETSU President Brian Noland and Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Dean of the Quillen College of Medicine Dr. Bill Block, the clinic is only for members of the ETSU community and the community-at-large who are eligible under the state of Tennessee’s vaccine roll-out plan. This includes people ages 65 and older, as well as those in groups 1a1, 1a2, 1b and 1c.

The vaccine clinic will be held in the Millennium Center ballroom, with appointments available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 20 or from 2 to 6 p.m. on March 21. Patients are instructed to park in the Millennium Center parking garage on the third level or above.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a one-series shot, is only available to people 18 years or older.

“At this time, we do not know if or when ETSU Health will receive additional vaccines, so we strongly encourage anyone who is currently eligible for a vaccine in Tennessee to make an appointment for a vaccine,” the email said. “We anticipate that these appointments will go fast, so please do not delay. Those who are unable to schedule an appointment through ETSU Health this weekend and are eligible for the vaccine should contact another vaccine location.”

According to a university press release Tuesday, faculty, staff and students from ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine, Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and College of Public Health will administer the vaccines and help with patient registration and intake.

“ETSU Health has been on the front lines of the pandemic since the beginning, providing testing to the community and caring for our patients,” Dr. Leigh Johnson, director of ETSU Health’s COVID-19 response, said in the press release. “We are thrilled to join our regional health care partners in the vaccination effort, as we will begin offering Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to eligible recipients in the coming days. We encourage everyone to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing until more members of the community are vaccinated.”
