After a year of delays due to COVID-19, the James C. and Mary B. Martin Center for the Arts is looking forward to hosting performers and audiences.

The ETSU Foundation Grand Hall, Powell Recital Hall and the Bert C. Bach Theatre will be available for student use in the fall semester. These spaces, mainly used by the ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance and the Music Department, are open for rental as well. Each venue includes state of the art lighting and acoustics.

“In a couple weeks we will be having a ribbon cutting, and we’re excited to officially cut the ribbon on the facility since we’ve been waiting to do so for so long,” said Jennifer Clements, executive director of university events. “But we wanted to wait until our students were on campus and let them share in the excitement.”

Due to the rise of the COVID-19 delta variant and a campus-wide mask mandate, holding university events has shifted slightly. The Martin Center hopes to still put on as many events as safely as possible with students returning to campus.

“We are taking as many precautions as the rest of the campus, ensuring that everything is safe for our students, faculty and staff and patrons that’ll be attending events here this year,” Clements said.

The Martin Center will offer a variety of events to attend both in person and virtually. The Department of Music will have student recitals every Thursday and audiences are welcome.

“We at the Martin Center will be very excited to announce here in a couple of weeks some of the performances we will be hosting,” Clements said. “It’ll be coming out hopefully very soon.”
