On Aug. 29, ETSU Buctainment partnered with the Student Government Association to host an outdoor country concert as a part of the first annual “Weeks of Welcome.” The concert took place behind the Center for Physical Activity and featured performances by Kip Moore, Kylie Morgan and Saul Brooks.

“I am really excited to hang out with friends and listen to some good country music,” said Meredith Glover, a junior.

First in the lineup was Saul Brooks, an independent country artist from Elizabethton, Tennessee. Brooks has been featured as an auditionee on American Idol in the past and is preparing for the upcoming release of his first studio album, “Long Story Short.” He is best known for singles such as “Been There, Done That” and “When I Meet You Love” which he showcased at the event, alongside a cover of “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks.

“I really like the vibes of Saul’s music. It puts me in a good mood,” said Kailee Amburgey, a senior.

Next up to the stage was Kylie Morgan, who energized the crowd with her red stiletto boots and powerful vocals. Morgan hails from Newcastle, Oklahoma, and is best known for singles such as “I Only Date Cowboys,” “Shoulda,” and “Mad I Need You.” Concert attendees were excited to hear Morgan’s take on the popular Lizzo song, “Truth Hurts.”

“I love Kylie’s freedom and sense of style on stage,” said Levi Jones, a sophomore.

Finally, Kip Moore stepped out to greet a cheering audience. Moore is a Georgia native and best known for his hit single, “Somethin’ Bout A Truck,” which was released in 2011 and eventually earned a Top 40 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 List. Other popular songs by Moore include “Beer Money,” “Hey Pretty Girl,” “Young Love,” and “I’m To Blame.”

“My favorite part about Kip’s performance was the uniqueness of his voice.” said Amburgey.

Overall, the concert was a huge success. Buctainment and the Student Government Association expressed their hopes of being able to work together to put on more outdoor concerts in the future, including a stadium performance at the end of the year.

“All the artists tonight show what it is to be a Buccaneer,” said SGA President Mason Mosier. “We are back and better than ever.”
