The Bucs traveled to Verona, Wisconsin, on Sept. 16 for the 2023 Badger Invitational. 

On Sept.17, Junior Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) led the Blue and Gold in the opener of the invitational. Bert totaled 11 pars, three bogeys, and four birdies in the first round at University Ridge Golf Course. Freshman Brianna Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) played the back nine and tied for 30th at 3-over-par 75. 

ETSU shot 20-over-par 308 at two under on Sunday, Sept.18. Sophomore Madeline Simcox (Bristol, Tenn.) led the Bucs in round two, carding an even-par 72. Simcox made her way up the leaderboard, passing 29 spots into a tie for 57th (+10). 

Bert shot a 3-over 75 on Monday and tied for 20th at 2-over-par 146. The Bucs removed nine strokes off their team total from Sunday, and ETSU recorded an 11-over 299 on Monday. Within the first two rounds, the Blue and Gold recorded 31-over-par 607.

Senior Grace Chin (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) carded the Bucs’ best round on Tuesday as she registered at 3-over 75. 

University of Texas at San Antonio’s Camryn Carreon earned medalist honors by finishing at 9-under-par 207. Carreon, who shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday, held off New Mexico’s Emma Bunch by one shot. Bunch recorded a 5-under 67 in the final round to finish at 8-under-par 208.

South Florida won the team title as they finished at 4-under-par 860. Wisconsin, the tournament host, finished runner-up at 9-over-par 873, while Delaware placed third at 10-over-par 874.

ETSU finished the tournament at 47-over-par 911.

The Buccaneers team lineup was No.1  Castaldi, No. 2 Chin, No. 3 Bert, No. 4 Senior Amber Thorton (Canberra, Australia), and No. 5 Simcox. The Bucs also had one individual in the field, Sophomore Charlotte Roodenburg (Rotterdam, Netherlands).

The Bucs travel to Vail, Colorado, next on Sept. 25 for the Golfweek Redsky Classic.
