In a thundering home-field debut, while being lead by first year head coach, Tre Lamb, Buccaneer football squash the visiting UVA-Wise Cavalier squad, 61-0. Explosive offensive firepower, paired with a steel curtain defense, the Buccaneers were able to capture their first win of the season. Improving from last weeks 38-10 loss to old school rival, Appalachian State, the Bucs were lead to victory in part by sophomore quarterback, Jaylen King (Folkston, Ga.) who passed for 186 yards and 4 touchdowns. In addition, six Buccaneers carried the rock, amounting to over 150 rushing yards in total, followed with two touchdowns by Trey Foster (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Torey Lambert (New Orleans, LA) respectfully.
On the other side of the ball, Buccaneers defense stood tall. Allowing zero points and only allowing 113 total yards. junior linebacker Nick Hunter (Atlanta, Ga.) came up with an interception, while the Buccaneers defense were able to rattle the Cavaliers offense early on, with a forced fumble.
Leading up to this week’s game, it was vital for the Buccaneer hopefuls to pack William B Greene Jr. Stadium, bringing the heat of home field for the Buccaneers. With 61 points, this marks the most points scored by the Buccaneer squad in over three seasons. Examining the explosive offense, Head Coach Tre Lamb has a strong opportunity to continue to grow and swing momentum into next week, as the Bucs welcome FCS powerhouse, North Dakota State Bison.
With this week’s game being a stretch of talent for the Bucs, the preparation for the Bison officially begins. The Buccaneers will hit the field for the 2021 playoff rematch game at 5:30 next Saturday, Sept. 14 looking to capture back to back wins and improve upon this weeks impressive victory.
